*Effective Tube Amp Design: A Practical Approach* - John J. Blencowe, Merlin Blencowe. Published by The Focal Press, 2003. ISBN 0-536-86907-6. An excellent book which goes into great detail on the design of tube amplifiers. This book is easy to read and covers all basic things you need to know to implement good tube amp designs. I'm not a big fan of this book, because it has a number of \"tricks\" in the form of \"AB converting circuits\" which can introduce excess harmonic and intermodulation distortion, although any amp with an A section can be converted to B section with no degradation in performance. A good rule of thumb is if you have the necessary op amps but no input filter, or if you have VCA's with input filters for the input jack, and an output filter, and you don't need any AB converting circuits, you don't need a transformer. *The Amplifier Design Handbook - Richard Guynup. Published by TI, 1995. This was the first book I ever read about design. It has a few rather bad chapters, which I assume were written before most of the design issues were known to the author. *Amplifier Handbook, Fifth Edition - Richard Rosen. Published by Simon & Schuster, London. This book is written by a professional repairman and editor for the British Broadcasting Corporation. It is an extremely reliable, thorough technical reference. However, it is quite large - 588 pages, and very expensive at the time of writing. The $350 price per book was well beyond my financial reach.
